CMPD officer Byron Blair was arrested early Friday morning, charged with intoxicated and disruptive behavior, and threatening an officer.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department ended up arresting one of its own in the early morning hours Friday. Officers responded to a call a little after 1 a.m. May 5 regarding a belligerent subject at the Transit Center at 310 E. Trade St. CMPD officer Byron Blair, who was hired in October 2015 and is assigned to the Steele Division, was then arrested for intoxicated and disruptive behavior and communicating a threat to harm officers.
“Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are expected to conduct themselves to the highest professional standards and will be held accountable when they fail to do so,” CMPD Chief Kerr Putney said in a statement following Blair’s arrest. “At no time will this department tolerate behavior that violates the law or our community’s trust.”
Blair has been placed on administrative leave.
