CHARLOTTE, NC — With Mother’s Day and graduations just around the corner, you might already be brainstorming ideas about where to go for a meal fitting for a celebration or to mark an important date. If you’re in the market for high-end seafood and steaks, you now have one more choice.

Charlotte’s newest eatery, Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, will be open for business in Uptown Friday, May 4 and promises to help make your next celebration memorable.

Eddie V’s Charlotte location joins 16 others in a chain that stretches coast-to-coast throughout the U.S., with locations in Boston and King of Prussia, Pennsylvania coming soon. The 269-seat restaurant sits at Trade and Tryon Streets, one of the most prominent intersections in the city, in a space that’s part of a redevelopment overhaul of about 42,000 square feet of retail space.

The vibe of this restaurant, say its purveyors, is a modern spin on a Prohibition-era speakeasy. Feet inside the stately glass entrance and it’s easy to see why. Behind the horseshoe bar is a glowing pyramid of high-end liquors. To the side is a jazz trio playing old and new standards that don’t overly compete to be heard over conversation. This is a prime spot to partake in a libation created right in front of you, such as the Smoked Old Fashion brought to fruition with a torch and a plank of cherry and balanced out with a dash of chocolate bitters. Just in time for warming temperatures is the Red Dragon, a riff on a mojito with muddled strawberries, berry rum and the glancing bite of basil. It’s crisp, light and offers a building promise with each sip that there’s a delicious jam-like finish at the bottom of the glass.

Start your meal with chilled shellfish, caviar, lobster tacos or the selection of seasonal oysters from both the east and west coasts. Salads are a sure bet, as well, such as the warm goat cheese salad with arugula greens slightly wilted in a cider vinaigrette with roasted wild mushrooms, or the heirloom tomato salad topped with creamy Burrata cheese flown in from Italy.

Pace yourself, because the main entrees are why you’re there. The jumbo Gulf shrimp enhanced with garlic and butter “Oreganata style” will not disappoint. Or, if you’re going all out, consider the bacon-wrapped filet topped with chunks of Alaskan king crab and topped with a sunny Bernaise. Don’t forget the sides, like brussel sprouts with bacon and shallots or the mac and cheese blended in a delicate cream sauce and dusted with panko and shaved truffles.
