Flash Flood Watch In Effect For NC: When Will The Rain Break?

Flash flooding could occur in the region as heavy rains settle in the area through Friday, saturating soil and waterways, forecasters warn.

CHARLOTTE, NC — A flash flood watch is in effect for the Charlotte metro and Lake Norman region Wednesday as heavy rains are expected through Friday, the National Weather Service said Aug. 1.

The flash flood watch will remain in effect until 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 3.

Sporadic heavy rains have already moved into the region, and after a lull, “will return in earnest today” through Friday morning with up to 4 inches of rain expected in the greater Charlotte area, according to forecasters.

“As the ground moistens and stream levels rise, the threat of flash flooding will increase with any heavy downpours moving repeatedly over the same location,” National Weather Service said in a weather advisory Wednesday morning.
