CHARLOTTE, NC — An investigation is underway after a massive fire broke out in a block of apartments under construction in the Woodbridge Apartment complex in east Charlotte Monday morning, according to Charlotte fire officials.

The predawn blaze in the apartment block located at 6600 Yateswood Drive sent billowing columns of thick smoke into the air required 40 firefighters about 45 minutes to put out, Charlotte Fire Department said. No injuries were reported.

Monday’s blaze marks the second massive fire at the east Charlotte apartment complex in under 15 months. In July 2018, about 40 residents were displaced and at least 16 apartments destroyed after a cigarette was improperly discarded.
