Man Charged In August Slaying Of Driver In East Charlotte

This summer, Kyyri De Ji Marquis Doggette was shot and killed in a car and now CMPD says they have arrested his killer.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Charlotte police have arrested a 23-year-old man who they say is responsible for the early August slaying of Kyyri De Ji Marquis Doggette in east Charlotte.

Doggette, 25, was found shot and killed inside a vehicle in the 6700 block of East Independence Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. during the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 8, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. He was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics.

CMPD has arrest Andre Earl Brooks, 23, for the crime after detectives developed probable cause against him during the course of the investigation. He has been charged with murder, shooting into an occupied property inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently in custody at the Mecklenburg County Jail, CMPD said Friday.

This arrest is the latest for Brooks, who has been arrested a dozen times in Mecklenburg County inside the past two years, The Charlotte Observer reported. The list of past arrests include charges such as possessing illegal firearms, assaults of females and drug possession, the newspaper said.
