Month-By-Month Summer 2019 Forecast Issued For North Carolina

The summer 2019 forecast for NC has been released by Weather Channel and the Farmers Almanac. Here's a look at the next 3 months.

NORTH CAROLINA — If you love heat and humidity — does anyone really like dripping with sweat the second you're outside? — then you'll love this long-range weather forecast for summer 2019 and into early fall. The Weather Channel released its mid-summer to early fall long-range weather forecast and it's calling for “near or slightly above average” and "above-average temperatures" for North Carolina over the next few months. And the Farmers Almanac calls for "sweltering, thundery" summer weather.

In July, North Carolina can expect "near- or slightly above-average conditions," according to the Weather Channel report. In August, the "above-average temperatures" return once again and this theme continues into September where "warmer-than-average conditions" are again expected for us.

The National Weather Service's long-range forecast also supports The Weather Channel's findings. The NWS is predicting normal precipitation over the next three months and above average temperatures for the same time period.

It appears, according to the NWS maps below, that the western and midwestern parts of the country are expected to see a lot of precipitation while the eastern states look relatively normal for the rest of the summer.

Above normal temperatures are expected for Southern Texas, the Gulf Coast states, and east of the Appalachian Mountains, the Weather Service predicts.

The Farmers’ Almanac released its summer 2019 forecast this week, which disagrees slightly with the other two forecasts. The publication says above-normal summertime precipitation is expected east of the Mississippi River. Lots of rain, thunderstorms, and humidity are likely during July and August in North Carolina, which will create "oppressively humid and uncomfortable conditions. So if you're not a fan of muggy weather, you might want to be sure the A/C is tuned up and ready to go—it's going to get quite a workout!"

Here’s the Farmers’ Almanac prediction for North Carolina through the end of July:

June 2019

  • 20th-23rd — Severe weather threat: High humidity, areas of fog, and even a few heavy thunderstorms for the Gulf states. Some thunderstorms may even spawn an isolated tornado.
  • 24th-27th — Showers, thunderstorms enter from the west.
  • 28th-30th — Warm, humid, with more showers, scattered thunderstorms.

July 2019

  • 1st-3rd — Showers, rain down eastern Seaboard into Florida, and then clear.
  • 4th-7th — Hazy sun, muggy, with hit-or-miss thunderstorms over Florida.
  • 8th-11th — Hot, dry.
  • 12th-15th — Eastern Gulf states: heavy rains.
  • 16th-19th — Warm, humid.
