Mooresville Endorses Rezoning Plan That Will Open Door To Major Development

Despite criticism from local residents, Mooresville's planning board has endorsed rezoning a 137-acre parcel for major development.

MOORESVILLE, NC -- Mooresville's Planning Board endorsed a rezoning plan Thursday night that calls for rezoning a 137-acre parcel of land in southern Iredell County, just outside of Davidson, that would allow the construction of hundreds of homes.

The planning board advanced the request to rezone the land along N.C. 115 from residential to high density mixed use in a 6-to-1 vote May 11, “amid a cascade of boos,” The Mooresville Tribune reported. The proposal would allow construction of 115 single-family homes, up to 300 condominiums, up to 120 townhomes and up to 300 multi-family apartment units.

The proposal has chafed residents in the area who only learned about the proposed development earlier this month and say the added traffic would only add to congestion on the two-lane artery between Davidson and Mooresville.
