NC Reports Nearly 1,400 More Coronavirus Cases This Weekend
As of Sunday morning, the North Carolina Health Department reported 530 more coronavirus cases, and seven additional deaths.
NORTH CAROLINA — The North Carolina Health Department on Sunday morning reported seven more coronavirus deaths and 530 new cases, bringing the state's death toll to 659 and the total number of cases to 18,512. This is an increase of 1,383 cases and 18 deaths since Friday.
Up until Sunday, the rate of hospitalizations was continuing to drop when 12 new hospitalizations were confirmed Sunday, according to state health officials. North Carolina — which now has 493 hospitalizations — recorded 481 hospitalizations Saturday, 492 hospitalizations on Friday and 507 hospitalizations on Thursday.
Compared to the state's other jurisdictions, Mecklenburg County has the highest number of confirmed cases with a total of 2,591, and 63 deaths.

Second on the list is Wake County, with 1,212 positive infections and 28 deaths.

A majority of people (43%) who tested positive for COVID-19 are between the ages of 25 and 49, according to state health officials. Twenty-four percent of people are between the ages of 50 and 64. And those 65 years and older account for 20 percent of positive infections.
The disease continues to disproportionately affect older people, with about 85 percent of those who've died so far being 65 or older.
