Coronavirus Cases In North Carolina Now Up To 63

There are now at least 63 cases of the new coronavirus reported in North Carolina, state health officials said Wednesday morning.

NORTH CAROLINA — There are now 63 new coronavirus cases in North Carolina, according to state public health officials. The new total is up from 40 cases in 16 counties reported Tuesday and represents a presence of the virus, also known as COVID-19, in at least 18 counties.

“We know there will be many more to come." Gov. Roy Cooper said Tuesday afternoon. "It is likely we already have community spread, which has yet to show up in testing. And we know more people will get sick and that lives are in danger."

The case count released by NC DHHS Wednesday morning, however, is getting outpaced by increases announced on a local level around the state. Wednesday morning, for example, Mecklenburg County Public Health (MCPH) officials said there are now 14 presumptive positive COVID-19 cases in the county, twice the number of cases reported Monday.
