Seek Higher Ground Now: Flash Flood Emergency In South Charlotte
Residents of southeast Mecklenburg County were urged to go to high ground after NWS issued a flash flood emergency Sunday afternoon.

CHARLOTTE, NC — A flash flood emergency has been declared in southeastern Mecklenburg County and residents in the area are urged to seek higher ground, the National Weather Service said around 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
“This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION,” the NWS advisory said. “SEEK HIGHER GROUND NOW!”
The flash flood emergency is in effect until 7:30 p.m.

Up to 3 inches of rain has fallen in the Charlotte metro region since early Sunday morning, with an additional 2-4 inches expected by Monday morning, NWS said.
“Streams and creeks are running very high in South Charlotte, Matthews, and nearby areas,” the NWS advisory said. “In some areas these bodies of water have risen to record stages and the extent of impacts may be unprecedented in some locations...flooding areas which have not flooded in recent memory.”
