CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police have launched an investigation after a shooting near the parking lot of Lawrence Orr Elementary in east Charlotte Monday morning.

A woman on the scene of the incident in the 4800 block of Shamrock Drive told police that her vehicle was hit by another vehicle as it was shot at by a man in the parking lot of the school.

According to a police report, the gunman got out of a vehicle parked in the school parking lot and began walking towards Shamrock Drive. He then shot at the grey vehicle that was leaving the school. That vehicle then crashed into the woman’s car and then fled the scene, but later called 911 to report the incident.

“At this time detectives believe that the shooter knew the driver of the grey vehicle and this was not a random act of violence,” a police report said.
