Student Killed While Crossing Road To School Bus: CMPD
A 15-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car as she was crossing the road to board her school bus early Tuesday morning.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police have launched an accident investigation after a 15-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car as she attempted to cross the road to her school bus in southwest Charlotte early Tuesday morning, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
The March 27 accident occurred around 6 a.m. when a 2017 Nissan Murano, driven by Kevin Michael Signer, 45, struck the girl while she was crossing Youngblood Road near the intersection of Buckthorne Ridge Lane, a CMPD statement said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by medic.

“The roadway does not have any overhead street lights and the pedestrian was not wearing any clothing that was reflective,” CMPD said. “This section of the roadway had no crosswalks or pedestrians signals.”
According to a police report, Signer was driving east on Youngblood Road and police do not think speed was a contributing factor to the police.

Neighbors in the area told WBTV that the Olympic High School student had missed the bus and was running to catch it, and that they’ve complained to school officials in the past about the lack of lighting at the bus stop.
CMPD’s major crash investigation unit has launched an investigation into the accident, including the bus pickup location, and ask anyone with information about the incident contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
