SWAT Standoff Leads To Arrest of Man Wanted For Dragging CMPD Officer

Kendrick Parry ran a stop sign Thursday, got pulled, dragged a cop 20 feet, and ended up in standoff with SWAT. Now he's headed to jail.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- A traffic stop for a stop sign violation earlier Thursday on W.T. Harris Blvd. sparked off a chain of events that led to an arrest attempt, a police officer being dragged 20 feet and eventually a standoff with the city’s SWAT team and negotiators.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say that Kendrick Parry, 30, was pulled in the 2500 block of E. W.T. Harris Blvd for a stop sign violation. While running his driver’s license, however, the officer realized Parry was wanted on outstanding felony warrants and a probation violation. He refused to get out of his car and fought officers as they “attempted to assist him out of the vehicle,” CMPD said in a statement. He fled the scene, dragging an officer 20 feet.

CMPD later received a tip that Parry was in a house in the 3800 block of Frontenac Ave. in east Charlotte. Mirroring the earlier incident, Parry refused to come out of the house, prompting police to dispatch its SWAT team and negotiators. After a standoff, they were able to enter the house and take him into custody.
