These North Carolina Schools Ranked ‘Best Colleges For Your Money’

Four colleges and universities in North Carolina made Money magazine's ranking of the best education values in the country.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Buying a house and sending kids to college are two of the biggest spending decisions most Americans will ever make. Fortunately for North Carolina families, four North Carolina universities are among the top 100 best college values in America, according to a new “Best Colleges for Your Money” ranking from Money magazine.

North Carolina State University at Raleigh came in #50, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ranked #60, Duke University ranked #64 and Davidson College ranked #70 in the Money 2017 Best Colleges For Your Money ranking for 2017-2018.

Money said the ranking is “new, uniquely practical analysis” that draws on research and advice from some of the nation’s leading experts on education quality, financing and value. North Carolina State University at Raleigh came in #50:

  • Estimated net cost without financial aid: $23,600
  • Estimated net cost with average state grant: $14,700
  • Percent receiving need-based assistance: 44%
  • Percent receiving merit-based assistance: 6%
  • Average early-career earnings for graduates: $52,500

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill came in #60:

  • Estimated net cost without financial aid: $25,700
  • Estimated net cost with average state grant: $11,600
  • Percent receiving need-based assistance: 41%
  • Percent receiving merit-based assistance: 2%
  • Average early-career earnings for graduates: $46,800

Duke University ranked #64:

  • Estimated net cost without financial aid: $70,900
  • Estimated net cost with average state grant: $23,000
  • Percent receiving need-based assistance: 40%
  • Percent receiving merit-based assistance: 4%
  • Average early-career earnings for graduates: $62,000

Davidson College ranked #70:

  • Estimated net cost without financial aid: $67,100
  • Estimated net cost with average state grant: $24,700
  • Percent receiving need-based assistance: 51%
  • Percent receiving merit-based assistance: 17%
  • Average early-career earnings for graduates: $49,900
