UNCC Student Hit, Killed After Falling Out Of Party Bus Uptown

Polly Miranda Rogers, 20, was killed when she fell out the exit of the Charlotte Party Charter Bus Tuesday evening.

CHARLOTTE, NC — A night of frivolity turned tragic Tuesday evening when a 20-year-old UNC-Charlotte student on board a party bus headed to an uptown bar fell out the vehicle’s emergency window into the roadway and was hit by two vehicles.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the accident scene in the 4500 block of North Tryon shortly before 10:30 p.m., and found Polly Miranda Rogers unresponsive in the road, according to a CMPD statement.

Rogers had boarded the Charlotte Party Charter Bus at the UNCC campus and was enroute to a bar in uptown when she fell out of the emergency window on the right side of the 44-year-old bus, landing in the center lane of North Tryon, police said. She was then hit by two vehicles.

A GoFundMe campaign for Rogers’ family was set up Wednesday, and nearly doubled it’s $7,000 goal in about six hours before it stopped taking donations.

“Polly was an emerging leader in our chapter [of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority] and one of the friendliest people you would ever meet,” Savannah Ward posted on GoFundMe. “She could always be found in the common areas of the house greeting sisters after their day at classes and making sure their day was going well. She will be missed fiercely.”

CMPD’s major crash investigation unit is investigating the accident and asks that anyone who may have witnessed events contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
