Widen I-77 To Hold Town Hall In Mooresville
The grassroots organization will present its latest effort to combat the Interstate 77 toll-lane project on Aug. 24 in Mooresville.

MOORESVILLE, NC -- Widen I-77, a grassroots organization opposed to the state’s Interstate 77 toll-lane construction project, will hold a town hall meeting in Mooresville Aug. 24 to discuss a recent study on the project impact released by the state.
“The public has a limited time to give input on the report. Widen I-77 will provide information on how you can get involved and make a difference,” Widen I-77 said in its newsletter.
The town hall is Thursday, Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Charles Mack Citizen Center, located at 215 Main Street in Mooresville. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest news in Mooresville — or other neighborhoods. And iPhone users: Check out Patch's new app.)

In April, North Carolina’s transportation department launched an independent review of the I-77 toll lane contract and project, hiring Mercator Advisors LLC, an independent consulting firm that specializes in complex capital investments, to do the study.
The sustained public outcry over the 26-mile I-77 Express Lanes Project led Mercator to recommend NCDOT consider terminating the project to show responsiveness to local concerns. “It would be difficult to find a major construction project that does not have some opposition, but sustained resistance by public officials to a project under construction is somewhat unusual,” it said. Mercator also said that canceling the contract would cost about $300 million
