Cornelius Police Warn Of ‘112’ Facebook Tip For Traffic Stops
Cornelius Police issued a statement after receiving a question about what to do when pulled over by an officer in an unmarked police car.
CORNELIUS, NC — If you’re pulled over by an unmarked police car for a traffic stop, do you know how you can verify you’re being stopped by a real police officer? According to Cornelius Police Department, a local resident concerned about his very scenario called in with that question after spotting a misleading post circulating on Facebook.
“This morning one of our Cornelius Emergency Dispatchers received a call from a citizen of Cornelius wanting to verify information about a Facebook post that is making its rounds again with information stating that if you are being pulled over by an unmarked police car to dial 112 to verify that it's actually a law enforcement officer as dialing 112 will connect you directly with a police dispatcher,” CPD said on its Facebook page.
“Dialing 112 is the European equivalent to dialing 911 in the United States,” CPD said.

“While there are a majority of cell phone providers in the United States that MAY forward a call made to 112 over to 911, please note that NOT ALL cell phone providers will forward that call. It is important to dial 911 directly should you encounter an emergency or a situation such as mentioned earlier,” CPD said. “Dialing 911 is the only way to know that you are correctly being connected with an emergency dispatcher.”
