Days After Blaze, Firefighters Return With Donations For Family
A Cornelius family's home suffered major damage in a fire Monday. Days later, firefighters returned to the neighborhood with donations.

CORNELIUS, NC — A Cornelius family who lost their home to a fire Monday saw firefighters again this week, when the Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue team returned to the Madison Village neighborhood with community donations.
According to reports, the fire began in the garage of the home located in the 19000 block of Madison Village Drive in Cornelius around midday Dec. 17. Firefighters from Cornelius and Huntersville responded “and found a garage on fire that had extended into the home,” Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post. “Due to the large volume of fire and the risk of exposures becoming involved additional help was requested.”
“The home suffered significant damage but due to the aggressive actions of members on scene many items were able to be salvaged,” Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue said.

Soon after the fire, a GoFundMe campaign was set up to help the Gillion family. “Our wonderful assistant, Joy, lost her home to a fire last night,” the campaign said. “She, her husband, baby daughter and pets are all safe, but they have lost everything. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated, especially here at the Holidays.”
