Elevated Bacteria Levels Shuts Down Swimming On Lake Cornelius
Elevated levels of bacteria have prompted a "No Swimming" advisory for Lake Cornelius, water officials said.
CORNELIUS, NC — A “No Swimming” advisory is in effect for a section of Lake Cornelius due to elevated levels of bacteria, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services.
The advisory is in effect for a single cove on Lake Cornelius, located between Catawba Avenue in Davidson and Davidson Street in Cornelius, and was put in place after routine water sampling June 10. The advisory went into effect the next day.
On July 16, a spokesperson for Storm Water Services told Patch that the advisory remains in effect because bacteria levels range from 200 to 1,000 colones per 100 ml. A level of 200 colones per 100 ml is considered safe.
