CORNELIUS, NC -- All hail the hot dog, the ubiquitous and uniquely American creation that for whatever reason has become a symbol for, well, simply being a U.S. citizen. That's especially true on Independence Day, a holiday during which a whopping 150 million hot dogs will be consumed, according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.

So, in that vein, what are some of best area eateries to grab a good dog during the Fourth of July, or anytime, for that matter? Well, the restaurant website Yelp has suggestions, primarily based on reader reviews about local establishments. There's quite the wide variety here.
