Lake Cornelius Survey Seeks Feedback On Recreation Access
Duke Energy is considering providing a public access point along the shoreline of Lake Cornelius, where there currently is none.

CORNELIUS, NC — The Town of Cornelius is conducting an online survey of residents regarding the possibility of a new public access point along the shoreline of Lake Cornelius.
Duke Energy, which is obligated under federal regulations to provide multiple access points along the Catawba-Wateree River and Lake System, is considering providing a new public access point to the 112-acre body of water with nearly 5 miles of shoreline. There currently is none.
“An online survey is now open for residents to provide feedback and the town will be hosting a community meeting to discuss the proposal,” the Town of Cornelius said in a Jan. 9 notice.

According to town officials, any new recreation access would be entirely funded by Duke Energy. “The project would be for passive use only, such as kayak, canoe, and paddleboard access, shoreline fishing, or nature watching. The site would include a pathway to the shoreline, a small gravel parking lot, benches, interpretive signage, and trash/recycling receptacles,” the town said on its webpage devoted to the survey.

The site would not include a launch for motor boats, a swimming beach, camping, a fishing pier or boat storage.
The Town of Cornelius will hold a community feedback meeting Jan. 23, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the community room at Town Hall.
