‘No Swim’ Advisory Lifted For Lake Norman In Cornelius

Water officials say its now safe to swim in Lake Norman after a busted pipe dumped 200 gallons of sewage earlier this week.

CORNELIUS, NC -- Mecklenburg County water officials have lifted a ‘no swimming” advisory for a Lake Norman cove in Cornelius. The ban was put in place earlier this week after a broken sewage valve sent hundreds of gallons of raw sewage into the water.

The Aug. 29 spill occurred when a valve failed on a low pressure sewage pipe located near 18803 Harbor Light Blvd, according to Charlotte Water spokesperson Cam Coley.

Charlotte Water crews made the necessary repair and lifted the swim ban Thursday morning after conducting water sampling.
