Scam Alert: Cornelius Police Warn Of Orange Bag Clothing Drive
A group passing out orange bags to collect items for "recovery homes" does not say where they are located, police said.
CORNELIUS, NC — The Cornelius Police Department is advising residents to not donate to a group claiming to be collecting clothing and household donations for “recovery homes” for victims of domestic violence, saying the clothing drive appears to be a scam.
According to CPD, the group called “HOPE for Domestic Violence” is distributing orange bags to area homes, and claims to be collecting items for “recovery homes” for victims of domestic violence.
“The group states it provides donated items to victims of domestic violence, but does not say where,” CPD said. “The items that are not given to domestic violence victims are then sold to second-hand stores to generate revenue for the group. We recommend you do NOT donate to this group as we do not know where these two ‘recovery homes’ are located.”
