Uptick In Vehicle Break-Ins Reported In Cornelius: Police

Cornelius Police Department urges residents to lock their cars after a rash of vehicle break-ins, including five in Antiquity last week.

CORNELIUS, NC — Cornelius Police Department is urging residents to lock their vehicles after an increase in reports of vehicle break-ins, including five reported in Antiquity over a two-day period last week.

“We have received an increase in calls for service regarding vehicle break-ins, which most of these vehicles were left unlocked,” CPD said Tuesday. “We are only 12 days into February and so far 13 vehicle break-ins have been reported to us.

Between Feb. 8 and Feb. 9, five vehicle break-ins were reported in the Antiquity neighborhood, police said. Police were able to obtain security video from a resident, which showed three suspects doing driveway to driveway pulling at car door handles.

“These types of crimes are crimes of easy opportunity! Please, make sure you lock up EVERY night and remove valuables such as wallets, car keys, computers and firearms,” CPD said.
