CSD Students Performing ‘Hamilton’ Style Opera

Fifth graders are taking a cue from Broadway for their George Washington production

DAVIDSON, NC -- What do you do when your entire grade has been researching George Washington during the school year? At most schools, you might be expected to write a report. If you’re a fifth grader at the Community School in Davidson, however, you present some of your findings through song and dance in a school play you helped write.

CSD fifth graders are taking their cues from Broadway this year, performing an opera called “Washington,” according to The Herald Weekly . The musical is a riff on the wildly successful “Hamilton” and tells a fictionalized account of the life of the first U.S. president in four acts.

“We dug deep and found some things that weren’t tue,” CSD student Cooper Bryan told the newspaper. “Like when they say he cut down the cherry tree -- that isn’t true.”
