Davidson Bookstore Holds Reading In Support Of Transgender Youth

The Feb. 28 event coincides with readings around the U.S. aimed at supporting transgender and non-binary youth.

DAVIDSON, NC — Davidson’s Main Street Books will join scores of bookstores from around the country this week in showing support for transgender and non-binary youth by participating in the Jazz and Friends National Day of School and Community Readings.

This is the fourth year for the event, which began after a national anti-LGBTQ hate group bullied a young girl in Wisconsin, according to the Human Rights Campaign.

In Davidson, the event will be held Feb. 28 from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Main Street Books, located at 126 South Main Street in Davidson.

This reading will coincide with other Jazz and Friends readings transpiring across the nation, bringing together thousands of people in schools and communities in support of transgender and non-binary youth. Jazz and Friends is an initiative introduced by Welcoming Schools, a branch of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation that strives to offer resources and programming to educators that render learning environments more inclusive of the LGBTQ community.

Although the discussion will be most appropriate for early and middle readers, all ages and identities are welcome to attend! And after the reading, mosey over to Ben & Jerry’s, where a portion of all proceeds between 5 and 7 pm will benefit LKN Connects, so they can bring more LGBTQ events and resources to Lake Norman.
