Davidson Lands Conservancy Receives National Accreditation
Davidson Lands Conservancy is now a nationally recognized, accredited land trust.
DAVIDSON, NC — Davidson Lands Conservancy is now a nationally recognized, accredited land trust, the organization announced Wednesday.
DLC, which was founded in 2000, is a nonprofit land trust that promotes conservation and works with landowners to preserve land in Davidson. It received accreditation from the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, which is an independent program 400 land trusts affiliated with the Washington, D.C.-based Land Trust Alliance.
DLC is now the 15th accredited land trust in North Carolina, and the development underscores DLC’s commitment to permanently protecting land in the community, said Autumn Rierson Michael, Executive Director.

“We want to be able to demonstrate to property owners, donors, and members that we are committed to long-term sustainability and good governance as an organization,” Michael said. “We are in the business of protecting land forever, and this accreditation helps build confidence in our organization that we can do that.”

The Davidson Lands Conservancy provided extensive documentation and was subject to a comprehensive third-party evaluation prior to achieving this distinction. The Land Trust Accreditation Commission awarded accreditation, signifying its confidence that DLC’s lands will be protected forever. Accredited land trusts steward approximately 20 million acres of land nationwide.

“It is exciting to recognize Davidson Lands Conservancy with this national mark of distinction,” said Tammara Van Ryn, executive director of the Commission. “Donors and partners can trust the more than 400 accredited land trusts across the country are united behind strong standards and have demonstrated sound finances, ethical conduct, responsible governance, and lasting stewardship.”
