Davidson Park Basketball Court Vandalized: Police

Davidson Police say vandals used a drill and heavy tools to damage goals in one of Davidson's two public basketball courts.

DAVIDSON, NC — Davidson police are asking for tips from the community after vandals severely damaged adjustable basketball goals in Plum Creek Park. The park’s basketball court is one of only two public courts in town, and the only court with adjustable goals, the town said.

Plum Creek Park, which opened last November, is located at 18928 Bartlette Creek Drive in Davidson.

The goals, which are designed to be raised and lowered to accommodate players of varying ages and abilities, were damaged with a drill and heavy tools, according to Davidson Police Chief Penny Dunn.

“I have seen kids carrying a basketball and riding their bikes on the greenway to and from the park. I would hate to see the equipment removed because of vandalism,” Dunn said.

“The gear lever is being removed and the goals will be set to regulation height in an effort to reduce intentional damage,” Town of Davidson Public Works Manager Jesse Bouk said in a statement. “This equipment is widely installed in this region, including at Charlotte and County Parks, and the company that produces it has never seen equipment damaged to this extent as a result of normal wear and tear.”
