Davidson Resident Graduates Magna Cum Laude From Carleton

Sylvie Stanback of Davidson graduated Magna Cum Laude from Carleton College in Minnesota.

DAVIDSON, NC — Sylvie Stanback of Davidson graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, Carleton College announced.

Stanback received her diploma June 9 at the commencement ceremony at the private liberal arts college in Northfield, Minnesota. She is the daughter of Mark Stanback and Nancy Popkin of Davidson.

“Following remarks by Carleton College President Steven Poskanzer, two senior students addressed the graduating class: Adriana Castillo, an American studies/educational studies major from South Houston, Texas, and Walter Paul, a political science/international relations major from Omaha, Nebraska,” the college said in a statement. “Carleton also presented honorary degrees during the commencement ceremony to Hong Kong businessman Karl C. Kwok (Carleton Class of 1971) and Minneapolis humorist and playwright Kevin Kling, who addressed the graduating class. Conferred "honoris causa" (for the sake of honor), this is the highest honor given by the college.”

Carleton College was founded in 1866 and is a national top 10, private liberal arts college.
