It's the first weekend of 2019 and there's plenty to do around Lake Norman, from live music to a Wildcat basketball game and pet adoptions.

DAVIDSON, NC — It's the first weekend of 2019 and there's plenty going on around Davidson and Cornelius that will help get the new year off to a great start, from a pet adoption event, live music to a Davidson Wildcats basketball game. And for those couples who got engaged over the holiday, there’s also a wedding show in Cornelius.
Here are our picks of the top five things to check out in Davidson and Cornelius this weekend:
- Pet Adoption Event with Big Hearts Big Barks — Saturday, Jan. 5, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., PetPeople, 20623 Torrence Chapel Road, Cornelius.
- MC3 Band at OTPH — Saturday, Jan. 5, 8:30 p.m. — 11 p.m., Old Town Public House, 21314 Catawba Avenue, Cornelius.
- Davidson Wildcats vs. Duquesne Dukes — Saturday, Jan. 5, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., John M. Belk Arena, Davidson College, 200 Baker Drive, Davidson.
- Mark Mandeville and Raianne Richards — Saturday, Jan. 5, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., Birdsnest, 102 S. Main Street, Davidson.
