As of 4:30 p.m., there were 206,789 of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) with 1,327 deaths due to COVID-19 reported among Mecklenburg County residents.

Applications for ARPA Funds Accepted Now thru Feb. 4, 2022

Mecklenburg County is now accepting applications from entities and organizations interested in receiving some of the ARPA funds that the County received from the U.S. Department of Treasury in May 2021.

ARPA, which stands for the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, provides relief funds to eligible state, local and tribal governments that have been negatively affected by the coronavirus. The purpose of the funding is to support communities hardest hit by COVID-19.

The County is currently requesting proposals for projects geared towards helping the community respond to COVID-19 and its negative economic impacts.

Qualifying projects must:

• Align with the County's COVID-19
  Strategic Recovery Plan and its priorities
• Support equitable outcomes for most impacted populations
• Leverage and align with other governmental funding sources
• Make best use of this one-time infusion of resources
• Meet a minimum threshold of $250K
• Have a lasting impact

The funds can also be used for incurred costs dating back to March 3, 2021. All funding must be obligated by Dec. 31, 2024. Projects using the funds have until Dec. 31, 2026 to be completed.

https://mecknc.gov/COVIDRelief. Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners to Host Budget Public Hearing on Jan. 19The Board of County Commissioners will hold the first Budget Public Hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022 at 6 p.m., to receive public input as part of the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 budget process.

The hearing will be held in the meeting chamber of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, and members of the public are invited to attend in person or virtually.County residents interested in addressing the Board can sign up to speak by visiting
https://meck.co/3kKSGJ4 or by calling the County Clerk's Office at 980-314-2912. Residents unable to attend the hearing are encouraged to submit comments by email to

County's Criminal Justice Services Recovery Courts Receive Federal Justice and Mental Health Collaborative GrantMecklenburg County's Criminal Justice Services Recovery Courts (CJS RC) Program, through its increased cooperative efforts with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department's Community Policing Crisis Response Team, and local mental health and substance use treatment providers, has secured a federal grant in the amount of $550,000. 

The awarded three-year project grant will be used to support treatment and social services needs of individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders who come in contact with the justice system. In addition, the grant will help align several services currently targeting mentally ill individuals that are served through CJS Recovery Courts, Forensic Evaluations, and Re-Entry Services Units. Once disbursed, these funds will also assist with bridging existing gaps in services that target mentally ill individuals at the pre-booking (community law enforcement - CPCRT & CIT) and post-booking stage.
