North Mecklenburg's annual Christmas parade is coming up. Here's what you should know about detours and road closures.

DAVIDSON, NC -- The holiday season is set to kick off this weekend in Davidson and Cornelius with the 35th annual North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade. Parade festivities will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2. Here’s what you need to know to catch the procession.
What is the parade route?
The North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade begins on the corner of Main Street and Griffith Street in Davidson at 1:30 p.m. The parade will proceed south on Main Street to Old Canal Street at the entrance of Antiquity in Cornelius.

The streets being used for parade staging (Jackson Street from Depot St. to Delburg St., Watson, and Griffith Streets from Main to Sloan/Beaty Streets) will close starting at 10 a.m. Main Street from Beaty Street in Davidson south to the Cornelius border will close at noon and will re-open at approximately 3:30 p.m.

This year’s Parade Grand Marshall is Sterling Martin. According to the Town of Davidson, Martin has been a town resident since 1959, and is a graduate of Davidson College, where he worked for 43 years.
“His dedication to service organizations is noteworthy,” says the Town of Davidson. “Sterling was the Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster of Troop 58 in Davidson, served for 20 years on the Town of Davidson Parks and Recreation Committee and Livability Board, was the 2007 and 2008 President of the Davidson Lands Conservancy, a Habitat for Humanity builder, and more. He currently serves on the Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Commission.”
