Public Input Sought On Davidson Public Facilities Plans

Davidson is holding two public information sessions Dec. 17 to discuss public facilities at 251 South Street and the current Town Hall.

DAVIDSON, NC — The Town of Davidson is holding two public information sessions simultaneously Dec. 17 to provide information and solicit community input related to public facilities at 251 South Street and the current Town Hall slated for renovation.

The sessions will be held Monday, Dec. 17 from 6 p.m. — 8 p.m. at the boardroom in the Davidson Town Hall, as well as the fellowship hall at Hopewell Baptist Church, located at 18841 Davidson-Concord Road.

“We have selected two locations on the same evening to encourage participation from all geographies in town,” said Assistant Town Manager Dawn Blobaum. “The Davidson Board of Commissioners seeks feedback from the community to guide their decision-making process for this soon-to-be-acquired property.”

Earlier this year, The Town of Davidson advanced a plan to purchase a former school near downtown to be used as new public facilities. A proposal to move town offices to the more expansive former IB school property located at 251 South Street has been in the works for more than two years.

On Sept. 5, that plan to purchase the property was put into motion after the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners declined its right of first refusal to buy it from the school district. The move enabled its current owner — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools — to proceed with selling the property to the Town of Davidson for $2.46 million.

The Dec. 17 sessions will have a drop-in format and will include:

  • Renovation plans for the school building at 251 South Street,
  • Previous plans to construct a new town hall in front of the existing town
  • Renovation plans for our existing town hall to house our police and fire departments.

For community members unable to attend the sessions, the town asks that you review details at www.townofdavidson.org/PublicFacilities and email your thoughts on the plans to renovate the former IB school for public facilities and other uses vs. building a new town hall in front of the existing town hall to PublicFacilities@townofdavidson.org.
