Top Five Lake Norman Events In September

September is here, which means it won't be long before the first day of autumn. Here's a list of the top five things going on this month.

DAVIDSON, NC -- Summer is winding down, which means it won’t be long before the days get shorter and the air grows crisp. There’s a lot to look forward to in September, starting with the first day of autumn on Sept. 22.

There are heaps of outdoor activities coming up this month that will make the most of these last days of summer. Here are five fun Lake Norman events to put on the calendar in September:

Revolutionary War Battle Reenactment -- Sept. 2-3
The Revolutionary War comes back to life Labor Day weekend at the Historic Latta Plantation living history farm and cotton plantation. The Battle of Charlottestown kicks off Saturday at noon, and the Battle of the Bees commences Sunday at 3 p.m. Historic Latta Plantation, 5225 Sample Road, Huntersville.

Amazing Maize Maze -- Sept. 9 opening, closes Nov. 5
Get lost on purpose in this 7-acre corn maze, which is one of the largest in the southeast. While you’re there, take a hayride around the farm. Rural Hill, 4431 Neck Road, Huntersville.

First Day of Fall (Autumn Equinox) - Sept. 22

The Great Chili Cook-Off -- Sept. 30
“Taste more chili than ever before, wash it down with some cold Budweiser or a chilled glass of wine and rock out to the live music of an incredible band,” say event organizers. Iredell County Fairgrounds, 630 North Main St., Troutman.

Carolina Renaissance Festival Opening Day -- Sept. 30
Kick off fall by traveling back in time to the time of Camelot by visiting one of the largest Renaissance fairs in the U.S. The weekend festival runs Saturdays and Sundays from Sept. 30 through Nov.19. 16445 Poplar Tent Rd., Huntersville.

Downtown Davidson Fall Art Festival -- Sept. 30
Artisans booths brimming with arts and crafts line Main Street with live music playing on Davidson Green. 3 p.m. - 8 p.m.
