Town Of Davidson Closes Town Hall Amid Coronavirus Concerns
Town hall is closing effective immediately in Davidson. Town staff will continue to serve the public, but will be working remotely.
DAVIDSON, NC — Town hall and all town buildings are closed effectively immediately, the Town of Davidson announced Tuesday. The closures come as the number of presumptive positive cases of the new coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, increase in the Charlotte metro region and around the state.
As of Tuesday morning, there were at least 40 reported cases of the COVID-19 virus in North Carolina, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Those numbers, however, continue to increase, locally and statewide. By Tuesday afternoon, for example, Mecklenburg County Public Health officials said there were now 11 presumptive positive COVID-19 cases in the county, up from seven cases reported Monday.
“With the ever-evolving guidance regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Town of Davidson has decided to make the proactive decision to close town buildings, including town hall, to the public to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 in our community effective immediately,” it said in a statement.

Monday, the town released a list of meetings and events scheduled into early April that would be cancelled.
Here’s what the Town of Davidson says about the closure:
Town staff will continue to serve the public, but have been asked to work remotely as possible. The main phone line to Town Hall at 704-892-7591 will remain open to answer any questions from residents. Town staff, including planning, parks and recreation, and other administrative departments will be working remotely and will respond to phone calls and emails as possible.
The town’s public works department will continue working with a limited crew. This allows for continued maintenance of public areas including park restrooms, trash cans downtown, minimal mowing and landscaping, while still maintaining proper health and safety protocols for town employees allowing for social distancing.
Police and Fire departments will continue normal operations. Please note that when reporting certain medical conditions to 911 Dispatchers, additional questions may be asked to screen for potential COVID-19 exposure. Answering yes to these questions does not mean you or your loved ones have COVID-19. These questions will help us determine if we need to arrive at your residence using appropriate protective equipment. Please answer questions honestly; your health and ours is important at this critical time.
