The Worst Intersection For Drivers In Davidson: Patch Readers

We asked readers to tell us what are the worst intersections for drivers in Davidson and boy, did you tell us.

DAVIDSON, NC — It’s not news to say traffic is bad in the Lake Norman region. With the ongoing toll road project on Interstate 77, accidents and the subsequent backups on secondary roads have become a daily norm in the area.

And just like on a NASCAR track, roadway congestion can lead to the inevitable “trading paint,” or worse. Crashes are up in the Mooresville region, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Iredell County, which NCDOT groups along with Alexander, Catawba, Lincoln, Gaston and Cleveland counties north and west of Charlotte, reported nearly 23,000 crashes in 2017, coming in third in the state. Those crashes reported in that 6-county region led to 113 fatalities and 9,689 injuries, the agency said.

But which intersections are the worst? We asked Davidson Patch readers to tell us about their least-favorite intersection in town, and drivers wasted no time in giving us their thoughts.

“The traffic circle by Rushco just off the interstate!” said Cheryl Morin Stearns. “No one yields and they are still doing 65mph when they hit the circle! A man almost got run over the other day crossing the street with the crosswalk lights flashing!”

Based on our totally unscientific poll, a swath of Davidson Patch readers say the most dreaded intersection is outside of town: the Highway 73 and Davidson-Concord Road intersection with June Washam Road

It was, however, far from the only intersection that raises ire among readers.

Here are the intersections Patch readers say are the worst in town:

  • Highway 73 and Davidson-Concord Road
  • Jackson Street and Griffith Street
  • Griffith Street and Beaty Street
  • Main Street and Davidson-Concord Road
  • Davidson Gateway and Jetton Street

Impatience makes the four-way stop at Davidson Gateway and Jetton Street dangerous, according to one reader.

“If they gave a ticket to everyone who ran those stop signs they could fund the 77 project,” Rick Russell said.
