2. Community unites for 'joy, grief & motherhood' benefit in Durham (cbs17.com) — Downtown Durham's Cheeni restaurant will host "Joy, Grief & Motherhood" on October 15, bringing neighbors together over dinner to talk openly about pregnancy, parenting and loss. Proceeds support Equity Before Birth's work providing doula care, therapy, baby supplies and paid leave help for Triangle families, with Senator Natalie Murdock speaking on maternal health in North Carolina.
3. 4. Durham police work to build relationships, community trust as 51 neighborhoods host National Night Out events (cbs17.com) — Durham neighborhoods turned out for National Night Out as police and residents met at block parties, cookouts and anti-crime events to strengthen trust after recent violence near Cornwallis Road apartments. Community leaders emphasized safety, partnership and using local services, while kids and families connected with officers through games, food and prizes.
