10,926 Positive Cases, Stay At Home Has Begun, Cumberland County

The Department of Public Health reports 83 new COVID-19 cases and one additional death since the last report on Wednesday, Dec. 9. Cumberland has a total of 10,926 COVID-19 cases and 125 deaths.

Cumberland County tested approximately 7,000 people for the week ending on Dec. 5 and currently has 278 cases per 100,000 residents. The percentage of test returning positive is 11.4%. The daily average of positive cases in Cumberland County is 116.4.
According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) COVID-19 dashboard, of the deaths in Cumberland County:

- 80% were age 65 and older
- 69% were male
- 52% were African American
- 2% were Hispanic
- 75% were hospitalized
- 85% had at least one comorbidity
- 43% lived in a congregate living setting
“While we have increased our testing capacity, most indicators we are tracking are continuing to move in the wrong direction,” said Health Director Dr. Jennifer Green. “Our public health and hospital community cannot sustain these increasing trends. Wear a mask. The mask works.”
The Health Department continues to offer COVID-19 testing on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week. Modified Stay at Home Begins Tonight
North Carolina will begin a Modified Stay at Home Order tonight after a rapid increase in North Carolina’s key COVID-19 trends.
Executive Order 181, which requires people to stay at home between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., takes effect Friday, Dec. 11, and will be in place until at least Jan. 8, 2021.
- The Order requires restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, personal care businesses and more to close at 10 p.m. Travel to and from work; to obtain food, medical care, fuel, or social services; or to take care of a family member is exempted. Read more in the Frequently Asked Questions.
