3 Steps to Teach Your Children to Love Our Earth

Encouraging children to love our earth is a very important thing for a parent. Here at CFS, we believe If we don’t instill the desire to protect the environment in our kids, they will continue to abuse it. Plus, since children are young and eager to learn new information and also have more capacity to learn, these teachings can become a regular part of their lifestyle. Teaching children to be eco-friendly at a young age can be done by following a few simple steps.

1. Explain to children How it Matters. Explain that the earth is living and humans can impact the environment both positively and negatively through our actions. Also explain that the impact is on the earth’s air, water, and land and that we need these elements. However, do not scare children into being eco-friendly with extreme pictures, shows, etc. Make them feel responsible for the planet by reminding the child that the earth needs love and respect just like them.

2. Set the Example. Show how eco-awareness is a responsibility not just for adults, but people their age as well. Demonstrate recycling with plastic bottles, paper, and other disposable goods you use in your home. You can also set a good example by driving more efficiently, and explaining more efficient vehicles while you drive children around. Setting the example with water, electric, and food use and waste are good examples as well.

3. Give Them Resources. Be an encouraging, listen to ideas, offer suggestions, and answer their questions. If your child is interested in gardening, help them with this ambition. Also check out eco-friendly activities in your area that your child is interested in. This leaves room for even more ideas for the entire family.

Once you show your kids you want to help protect our earth, teaching your children to do the same will be easy. The learning and sharing process can also be a good opportunity to find common interests with your children.
