Idol Update: David and Ariel are out

The Final 24 does not include the Seventy-First High School students

Thursday night's American Idol contest was chopped down to 24 hopefuls.

Unfortunately for Fayetteville's David Leathers Jr., he was not selected to advance but it's not over yet. He is one of the guys who could return to compete for a spot in the Top 13 along with Johnny Keyser, Jermaine Jones, and Richie Law.

On American Idol blogs and fan pages, it seems everyone was shocked that David was not picked. Many messages read: "Bring David back!".

Ariel Sprague was not selected from the trio of girls along with Shelby Tweten and Hollie Cavanaugh. Hollie won the coveted spot leaving Ariel behind.

The students from Seventy-First High School will be returning to Fayetteville. I say we give them a warm reception. It was exciting watching them advance this far into the process, and David's fate is still up in the air.
