Army Football Battles Navy in 112th Game

Army loses again, but fans enjoyed a spirited game.

Saturday 10 December marked the 112th Army-Navy Football Game. President Barack Obama, accompanied by Vice President Joe Biden, joined over 80,000 of cheering fans to watch the Army team from West Point, New York take on the Navy team from Annapolis, Maryland.

The opening events included the traditional march-ons from the West Point Corps of Cadets followed by the Brigade of Midshipmen, and flyovers by Navy F-18s and Army Apache helicopters. The commemorative game coin celebrated the life of President Ronald Reagan, and President Obama performed the coin toss, which Army won by calling “tails.”

Navy took an early lead with a 14-0 lead which Army matched bringing the score to 14-14 going into half-time. During half-time, President Obama switched sides to spend time with the Army team and fans were serenaded by Lee Greenwood in his performance of “God Bless the U.S.A.”

During the second half of the game, the battle continued but Navy found victory over Army for the 10th year in a row with a final score of 27-21. 
The series now stands at 56-49-7, Navy. The 113th game will return to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania December 2012.

"Although it was a loss for Army, it was great linking up with Army fans from Fayetteville at tailgates and sharing stories," said Parker.
