Back To School opportunities for Fayetteville's Homeschoolers

Get back into the school groove with a visit to Pilgrim's Journey. You're sure find more than good shopping.

Though I insist on living in adamant denial, the signs are overpowering. The pool is less crowded. Super stores are stocked. Kick-off party plans come daily to my inbox. Catalogs cover my counters. All pointing at the same reality: Back to school.

Swinging back into the school mindset is easier when your excited about what you’re swinging into. The Pilgrim’s Journey (Fayetteville’s homeschool curriculum  consignment resource), knows this and they want to help.

In August, The Pilgrim’s Journey kicks off a new round of enrichment classes for the 2011-2012 school year. They are hosting an open house (complete with refreshments), Thursday, August 11th from 6:00 – 8:30pm to highlight classes being offered. Facilitators will be on hand to answer questions and families can enroll their students at that time.

A complete list and description of classes will be made available on the calendar page of The Pilgrim’s Journey website. Scroll through the weeks, then run your cursor over a class of interest. A detailed description of the class will appear. The Pilgrim’s Journey is also sending class descriptions this week to email subscribers. You can sign-up to receive updates from the Pilgrim’s Journey on their website under the Contacts/Directions tab.

Besides offering enrichment classes, the Pilgrim’s Journey provides monthly support to new homeschooling parents. Their class: Homeschooling 101 meets the 1st Thursday of every month at 6pm.  The setting is informal and facilitated by an experienced homeschool parent (usually, Kelly Rogers—the owner—but not always).  The evening begins with descriptions of various teaching methodologies, with the majority of time spent answering questions and viewing curriculum. Parents are able to turn pages, comparing books side-by-side, rather than from a computer screen. Often, Rogers keeps the store open to parents who attend. The next meeting is this Thursday evening, August 4th.

Finally, to accommodate those taking advantage of this weekend’s tax-free shopping, The Pilgrim’s Journey will extend their weekend hours. They will be opened both Friday (5th) and Saturday (6th), 10am to 5pm.

Hopefully, you’re ready for “back to school”. But, if not, grab some friends and scope out Fayetteville’s educational opportunities. Check into the enrichment classes at The Pilgrim’s Journey. Find new homeschooling parents and take them to a Homeschooling 101 night. Buy new supplies and maybe something special for teacher.

Back to school season comes despite denial. Thank goodness for resources which help us embrace it.
