Don't Ask, Don't Tell Policy Needs To Go Away Already
Gays in the military and the DADT policy.
To be quite honest, I am tired of hearing about the "DADT" policy and how it affects everyone. Who does it affect, I mean, REALLY effect? In my opinion it is the people who have problems with homosexuality.
Gays who serve in the military are there not as gays, but as soldiers. I have served alongside soldiers in combat as well as in peacetime who were "closet" gays but they were fine combat specimens. In fact, a few were some of the best men and women I have ever seen wear the uniform. This offers up the question of how much a soldier's sexuality actually pertains to how well he or she performs in the field. To my knowledge, it means nothing. I have seen my fair share of combat and there have been times where gays are the reason that either myself or someone I know can still draw a breath of air today.
To all those people who have problems with gays, here is a piece of advice: Get over yourself. The problem is not with them, it is with you. There are things that you do behind closed doors that others may not like so why don't you turn the other cheek. Everyone is different. We are made that way. The military is finally making the right decision because it knows that the gay community is growing more and more and before it is said and done, more than one-third of the military will be experimenting with homosexuality in one form or another. It is just the way things are heading. It is the 21st century and times have changed and it is about time that we all change with it.
