Military Families are staying home, here's why!

This information is based off of 100's of Interviews.

I spent between one to two hours of my time talking with each active duty family I am referring to in this article. I talked to active duty families ranging from the age of 18 to 40+, from 5 children to zero children and families that where expecting, planning or not planning. I spoke with them in all of the following areas: Fayetteville, Spring Lake, Raeford, Fort Bragg, Pope Field and Hope Mills. This was not a small task to complete by any means. It took me about a year to gain the key information I am about to share with you. I am sharing this information with you because of one core value I gained from the Air Force, SERVICE BEFORE SELF.

As an Air Force veteran the three core values I gained are integrity first, service before self and excellence in all we do. If you want to stick out, if you want to succeed, if you want to prosper more than you already are I highly recommend following this advice. Let me paint a personal testimony for you, the year is 2006 I am walking into Arby's near McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kan. An older gentleman comes up to me while I am in uniform sticks out his hand to shake mine and says 'thanks for your service sir'!

Here we are six years later and that moment still sticks into my mind. That feeling of genuine appreciation for what I was doing. That warmth in my heart filled my body to the brim with a boost of inspiration that was so powerful that I still remember that one small moment in time. I say one small moment because it never happened again.

We are constantly surrounded by troops in uniform, so many in fact that you can literally get worn out from saying thanks for your service and shaking hands. I know because I have done it -  I have chased down people, rolled my window down, pulled up next to them on my bike, sat down in the food court on base during lunch time just to try and make people feel what I felt so long ago. Our troops and their families have a duty to the citizens of the United States of America whether it's hard, challenging, deadly, easy or away from their family.

Support their efforts! Do you know what it's like to be at home with two children and your spouse is supposed to be at home by five and they don't show up until midnight without so much as a phone call because they were told not to inform anyone? Do you know what it's like to have your spouse simply ripped out of your life unexpectedly for a year and they only have a few hours before they go?

Our military spouses are hurt mentally, and more emotionally than we realize.  Do you really think they can even handle coming into your business? What do you do when you see them? I know this information is fact, I have seen and heard it with my own observations. I use to work at a few different places around town and I'll tell you the truth, if a military table came in you had to fight in order to even handle them. I have walked on car lots with my Air Force Academy jacket on and guess what happens? People consumed my presence like a pack of raging wolves.

Something has to change and I know after all of the families I have interviewed, that they would rather just buy on base, cook at home, buy Netflix and pick up cars off the "lemon lot" so they can assist another solider who has to move. So what kind of business do you have? Start thinking about how you can keep your distance and stop treating every military person like they have a paparazzi trying to tap into their debit card. I highly recommend shaking some hands and expressing genuine appreciation for the soldiers and their families that are willing to fight for your physical and financial survival.

Doing this while your outside of your business has even more of a major impact on Fort Bragg Morale. Let's show these families how welcoming North Carolina can be!

Sincerely,
