More Cumberland County Passport Fun

Summer may be over, and school may be in full swing, but that doesn’t mean that the family fun can’t stop! Weekends are a great time to continue your children’s education without them really knowing it, by taking them to some great locations around Cumberland County! Or maybe you’re just looking for something fun to fill your free time!  Stop by the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and pick up your Passport to America’s Hometown. When you visit Greater Fayetteville, you have a pretty serious decision to make: will you immerse yourself in our fantastic natural wonders, take a trip back in time at one of our many awe-inspiring museums or take in a live theater performance from one of our many venues?

No matter what you decide to do, you will soon discover that Fayetteville/Cumberland County offers you an endless variety of things to do while you are here. And the Passport to America’s Hometown offers you a small glimpse of some our best attractions!

Using the Passport to America’s Hometown is as easy as one, two, three. Pick up your passport at the FACVB, and select the attractions that you would like to visit. Once you complete your visits at each of the listed attractions, the staff will stamp your passport with their unique stamp to indicate you’ve completed their site. Each of the 12 locations featured offer a fun & educational experience for your kids (and you!)

The Art’s Council

Formerly the site of a United States Post Office and a public library, this building now houses the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County. The Arts Council galleries feature local and regional artists. The Arts Council hosts numerous free art events for the community and visitors alike such as monthly Fourth Fridays, the annual International Folk Festival in September, A Dickens Holiday during the holiday season, and visual art exhibitions.

Averasboro Battlefield

Explore the history of the Battle of Averasboro (March 15-16, 1865) when you visit the museum, battleground, and cemetery. Also learn about the Smith family, who owned the 8,000-acre plantation where the battle was fought. Three plantation houses still stand today.

Cape Fear Botanical Garden

Cape Fear Botanical Garden encompasses 77 acres of pine and hardwood forest, and boasts meticulously preserved natural areas of the region’s indigenous plants, trees and wildlife. The cultivated garden areas showcase more than 2,000 varieties of ornamental plants, and include our renowned daylily, camellia and hosta gardens. Surrounding the Wyatt Visitors Pavilion Complex is a collection of sustainable oaks, fastigiated ironwoods, fringe trees, parrotias and longleaf pines. The River Walk, Heritage Garden, Children’s Garden, the Butterfly Stroll and PWC Water Wise Garden provide unique educational experiences for young and old alike.
