Oh No Not Again!

The deadline is August 2nd. While all of this is going on, thousands of military families are hanging by the wayside

We are back in the same place we were in April 2011 with the leaders in Congress. They are still at odds over a plan for reducing the federal deficit, something both sides say has to be part of a decision on raising the nation's debt limit.  The deadline is August 2nd. While all of this is going on, thousands of military families are hanging by the wayside. That's because if Congress doesn't reach a resolution soon, paychecks to service members could be stopped. As it stands now, if Congress doesn't raise the debt limit, all active duty members of the military would stop getting paid next month by the 15th.

Being a military family is difficult enough and the thought of no pay is terrible. Being separated from your spouse that is such a sacrifice that we are all going through and continuing to go through. If they don’t pass this budget this would be just some more unnecessary stress that we don't need.

Right now I was reading that members of both parties in Congress are expected to approve a bill that would guarantee military service men and women would get paid if the government defaults on its debts. I hope that bill passes before August 2, 2011. Now with all this being said, I am pretty optimistic a solution will be reached before August, but we do need to prepare. I am really hoping that the Republicans, Democrats and the President will work together and figure something out. So I urge you to reach out to your congressional members in your district and stress how important this is to you and your family.
