Commissioners Select County Priorities At Special Meeting

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners selected seven top priorities for Fiscal Year 2022 during their annual goal-setting meeting held this morning at the Department of Social Services.

The three-hour session was facilitated by N.C. Cooperative Extension Directors: Clinton McRae, South Central District Director; Robert Furr from Cabarrus County and Lori Ivey of Stanly County.

After discussing 16 potential priorities, the board narrowed the slate to seven top issues that will have both short and long-term action steps. County management and staff will work with commissioners in developing objectives and key performance indicators of success for each goal.

The board’s priorities are:

• Access to public water in the Gray’s Creek area
• Performing Arts Center
• Countywide public water
• Homelessness
• Government communication, both internal and external
• Economic Development
• County facility asset inventory and audit

“We had wonderful discussion today about many different areas of interest, and it was good for us to hear from each other. This was the first step in developing our roadmap for this year and beyond,” said Chairman Charles Evans.
