Community Events for 9/11

What were you doing when you learned of the 9/11 terrorist attacks?

Some say this question is similar to one raised almost 50 years ago: “What were you doing when you learned President Kennedy was assassinated?”

We all have a unique answer to the question posed—some to both questions.

Thousands were directly affected by the loss of a family member or loved one killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, all have been touched by the ripple effect of what occurred. Those who are old enough to remember September 11 can, most likely, remember where they were and what they were doing that Tuesday morning in 2001.

Recollecting how we learned of the attacks on 9/11 makes the events of that tragic day personal. Each story links the storyteller to the events on an individual level.

Over the last 10 years, we have faced highs and lows as a nation. Though we have experienced further loss with soldiers deploying from Fort Bragg and other military installations, we still reflect on the events that occurred on 9/11. It is a day we remember those we lost in the attacks, but it is also a day we remember uniting as a nation.  

9/11 Memorial Events

Fort Bragg: 9am, Fort Bragg Main Post flagpole. Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony events will include: presentation and honors, a wreath laying and remarks by the deputy commanding general. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place at Womack Army Medical Center’s Weaver Auditorium.

Fayetteville: 3pm, First Presbyterian Church, 102 Ann St. The church will host a special worship service in memory of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Congressman Mike McIntyre is a featured guest speaker.
