County Hires Retired Army Officer As County Engineer

County Manager Amy Cannon has hired Jermaine Walker as the Cumberland County’s new Engineering and Infrastructure Director. Walker’s first day on the job was March 15.

Walker recently retired as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army after serving more than 20 years as an engineering officer. His experience includes serving in several positions at Fort Bragg including as the Command Engineer for U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command; Chief of Facilities and Construction for U.S. Army Special Operations Command; and Engineer Plans Officer and Facilities Manager for the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade.

A long-time Fayetteville resident, Walker holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina A&T University and a master’s degree in public administration from Webster University. He is completing a doctorate in business administration from Northcentral University in Arizona.

“Mr. Walker joins Cumberland County after a distinguished and accomplished career in the Army,” said Assistant County Manager for Environmental and Community Safety Tracy Jackson. “He has 20 plus years of engineering, construction and project management experience in the U.S. and overseas, and we look forward to his service with the county.”
