Beginning Monday, Nov. 2, anyone entering the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Courthouse will have their temperature checked using a thermal temperature scanner. The checks are being implemented to help stop the spread of COVID-19 as jury trials resume. Individuals are also required to wear face coverings in the building and encouraged to practice social distancing.

Staff and visitors to the Courthouse should arrive earlier than normal to accommodate the new entrance procedure. The scanners are free-standing monitors that will use non-contact infrared thermometers to provide immediate body temperature. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or above will be asked to exit the Courthouse and given a card with contact information on how to contact the courts or county offices. Anyone with a temperature below 100.4 and wearing a mask will be allowed to continue into the Courthouse.
Chief Justice Cheri Beasley announced on Oct. 15 that jury trials may resume on Nov. 2 in districts with an approved Jury Trail Resumption Plan. The public can view Justice Beasley’s Emergency Directives on the North Carolina Judicial Branch’s website at nccourts.gov.
